ArchiMed acquired the majority of Soest Medical Group (SMG), a leading Dutch niche developer and manufacturer of self-adhesive medical products for surgical covering materials. ArchiMed sourced the opportunity through its trademark approach of trade fairs analytical screening and targets identification. Following a direct approach, ArchiMed entered into exclusive discussion with the Company’s shareholders, confirming its ability to exclusively source primary opportunities of leading niche players in the healthcare sector.

SMG is among the leaders in the production and distribution of medical adhesive tapes both for reusable and disposable garments used in the operating theatre. Founded in 1990 and headquartered near Amsterdam (The Netherlands), SMG started as a manufacturer of adhesive tapes for the reusable drapes industry with the Eurotape brand before diversifying into the disposable space with a second brand launched in 2007, Somed. SMG has developed a global presence with a diversified customer base across 40+ countries, including most western-European countries, the Americas and the Middle-East.

SMG’s growth over the past years has been fueled by an accelerated international expansion as well as differentiated product offering. SMG has established strong technical leadership in the medical adhesive tapes sector thanks to in-house R&D developments and an external acquisition. ArchiMed’s ambition is aligned with management team’s interest to further support the growth of the company, leveraging ArchiMed’s international network and industry expertise. ArchiMed has been chosen due to its sector-focused approach and potential to bring complementary competences to the SMG team. As a first step of this new adventure, a number of potential add-on opportunities for SMG are currently being reviewed.


1990 →  SMG is founded. The company introduces the first internally developed adhesive tape for reusable surgical covering materials. The Eurotape brand is created.

2007 →  Following the growth of the disposables industry, SMG creates the Somed brand, focused on medical adhesive tapes for disposable surgical covering materials

2010 →  SMG acquires the division of medical adhesive tapes for reusable surgical covering materials from 3M

2015 →  SMG introduces new products to further accelerate its growth: inserts, die-cuts, OP-strips, liquid collection pouches, incision films and finger cots
